About Dr. Amit K Taggar
Amit K. Taggar, MD, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Ross University School of Medicine in New Brunswick, N.J. Dr. Taggar completed both a medical internship and his general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. He then performed an advanced training fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in Fresno, California. Dr. Taggar was in practice in Alabama before he decided to join Dr Wizman.
Dr. Taggar has abundance of research and publications. As a respected authority in his field, Dr. Taggar is often selected to present topics related to bariatric surgery at meetings of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He also has co-authored a book chapter in “Obesity, Metabolic, and Bariatric Surgery. “ Dr. Taggar specializes in Laparoscopic Roux En Y Bypass, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, Duodenal Switch, and Revisional Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Taggar believes his patients are patients for life. He believes that with long term support with a multi-displinary team, patients will have long term sustainability of not only weight loss but resolution and prevention of medical co morbidities. He defines success in years not in months.
Dr. Taggar did play Division 1 tennis at Georgia Tech. As a junior he was ranked as high as #12 in the country and #256 in ITF junior world rankings. He also was featured in Sports Illustrated.
He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
